This is one of the greatest modernist novels in Brazilian literature written in the early 30's. 

This rhapsody tells the story of Macunaíma, an anti-hero who tries to survive the evils of an authoritarian, unfair, selfish and cynical society and system.  

This film portrays very well the face of Brazil in the early 70's, which actually hasn't changed much since that time.  

Macunaíma is undoubtedly one of the greatest masterpieces of Brazilian cinema!
